Understand the connection

CD14 helps the immune system recognize lipopolysaccharide, or LPS, from the outer surface of certain bacteria. It appears on cell surfaces and also circulates as soluble CD14.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser explains how CD14 works with MD-2 and TLR4 to activate inflammatory signals such as NF-κB. This connects bacterial exposure, gut-barrier questions, monocyte activation, and downstream cytokines.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
