Understand the connection

A cytokine panel can include immune messengers, chemokines that guide cell movement, receptors that receive signals, and proteins with other roles. These categories answer different questions.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser groups immune discussions around signals such as IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-17, IL-23, and interferons. CCL2/MCP-1 and IL-8/CXCL8 are chemokines; CD14 and TLR4 help recognize triggers. DDAH1, RAD50, and clotting factors are not all cytokines simply because they appear beside immune markers.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask what each test actually measures and whether it is a genetic result or a protein measurement. Which findings are relevant to your symptoms, and which are useful only with other evidence? The number of flagged entries does not replace a diagnosis.
