Understand the connection

Gout begins with monosodium urate crystals. Immune signals amplify the response to those crystals and help produce the redness, swelling, and pain of an attack.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser follows crystal recognition through NLRP3, caspase-1, and IL-1 beta into inflammatory-cell recruitment. This distinguishes the crystal trigger from the cytokines that carry the inflammatory message.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask how uric acid, kidney function, medicines, and attack history affect prevention and treatment. Antioxidant discussions are separate from controlling urate and treating an acute flare.
