Understand the connection

Hailey-Hailey disease is an inherited skin condition involving impaired adhesion between skin cells. The ATP2C1 gene and calcium handling are central to the condition.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser connects acantholysis, friction, heat, infection, inflammatory cytokines, and oxidative stress. He discusses the antioxidant triad as an adjunctive question while distinguishing support for inflamed tissue from correcting the underlying inherited change.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask how to reduce triggers, manage infection, and choose skin treatments. If corticosteroids are poorly tolerated, discuss alternatives with a dermatology clinician rather than assuming supplements will replace treatment.
