Understand the connection

HMGB1 normally helps organize DNA inside a cell. When it is released outside injured or stressed cells, it can act as a danger signal to the immune system.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser explains the connection between HMGB1, receptors such as RAGE and TLR4, NF-κB signaling, and ongoing tissue inflammation. He also discusses oxidative stress and the body’s antioxidant defenses.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
