Understand the connection

Interferon-beta is a type I interferon involved in antiviral defense and immune regulation. It is different from interferon-gamma, which belongs to the type II interferon group.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses interferon-beta in the context of immune signaling and multiple sclerosis. A naturally produced immune signal and a prescribed interferon-beta medicine are related concepts with different clinical uses.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
