Understand the connection

Interferon-gamma, or IFN-γ, is a type II interferon produced by immune cells including T cells and natural killer cells. It helps activate macrophages and organize defense against infection.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser connects the Th1 immune response with macrophage activation, antigen presentation, and inflammation. He discusses the interaction of IFN-γ with TNF-alpha, barrier tissues, and oxidative stress rather than treating any one cytokine as the whole explanation.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which result is being discussed: a genetic variant, a measured protein level, or a diagnosed condition. How does it fit with your symptoms and other tests? Dr. Purser discusses antioxidant support alongside these pathways; ask how any supplement would fit with your medicines and care plan.
