Understand the connection

IL-6 is a messenger; IL-6R is the receptor that receives it. IL6 and IL6R are different genes, and a result for one should not be labeled as a result for the other.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser explains IL-6 receptor signaling through gp130 and the JAK/STAT3 pathway. He discusses soluble-receptor trans-signaling, homocysteine, oxidative stress, and diffuse pain. Glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase have different antioxidant roles and do not act as the same kind of intervention as a prescribed IL-6 receptor blocker.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask for the exact gene and rsID, the laboratory’s interpretation, and whether a measured result supports increased inflammatory activity. Carrying two identical alleles does not by itself establish a high-expression state or explain pain, seizures, or another condition.
