Understand the connection

Transverse myelitis involves inflammation in the spinal cord and can affect movement, sensation, and bladder function. Several different conditions can produce it.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses IL-6, Th17 signaling, B-cell activity, and related neuroinflammatory pathways. He also distinguishes direct inflammation from indirect kidney problems that can arise when nerve-related bladder dysfunction causes retention or infection.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which cause has been identified and how spinal-cord, bladder, and kidney function will be monitored. New weakness, sensory loss, or loss of bladder control needs urgent assessment.
