An omega-family glutathione enzyme

GSTO1 belongs to the omega family of glutathione S-transferases. These enzymes participate in redox chemistry, with roles that differ from the better-known GSTM1 and GSTP1 pathways.

Putting the pieces together

Dr. Purser places GSTO1 in his intracellular antioxidant teaching. The useful connection is between glutathione availability, oxidative workload and the larger detoxification network. A marker cannot identify a particular toxin exposure or prove that an antioxidant enzyme is absent.
