THE TEACHING CONNECTION
A shared component of two cytokines
A shared component of two cytokines
IL12B encodes the p40 subunit shared by IL-12 and IL-23. This makes it an intersection between immune pathways rather than a stand-alone measure of one cytokine.
Putting the pieces together
Dr. Purser groups IL12B with pro-inflammatory immune activation. IL-12 is associated with interferon-gamma responses, while IL-23 supports Th17-related responses. Understanding the shared subunit helps distinguish IL12B from IL23A, which supplies the p19 component of IL-23.
Where the VARS Triad and MTHFR Daily fit
If you are exploring homocysteine or cytokines, Dr. Purser may discuss MTHFR Daily and the VARS Triad: VARS Glutathione, VARS SOD, and VARS Catalase. He gives glutathione a central place in his approach to antioxidant support.
A gene result alone cannot tell you that you need these products or that they will treat a condition. Review your current results, medicines, goals, and tolerance with your clinician before choosing a product or dose.
A question to bring to your visit
Which branch of the immune pathway is relevant to my established condition?
Variant lookup
These names can help you find an entry on your original genetic report. Seeing a name here does not tell you whether it affects your health or whether you need treatment.
