Understand the connection

Inclusion body myositis, or IBM, involves progressive muscle weakness with inflammatory and degenerative features. It requires a neurological or muscle-specialist evaluation.

Follow the pathway

Dr. Purser discusses immune activity, protein accumulation, mitochondrial stress, homocysteine, and IL-6 as interacting research questions. His antioxidant discussion includes glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase; these mechanisms do not establish that supplementation stops IBM progression.

Bring these questions to your visit

Ask which examination, biopsy, and laboratory findings support the diagnosis and how strength, swallowing, mobility, and safety will be monitored. Review nutrient deficiencies as additional concerns within specialist care.
