Educational summary

Why this matters

Turn broad health statements into specific questions you can discuss with a clinician.

How the pieces connect

Hair loss, fatigue, or another symptom can have several causes. Ask what would support an explanation and what might rule it out.

Turn absolute statements into testable questions

Dr. Purser uses memorable, strongly worded teaching statements. To learn from them, separate the observation from the proposed explanation. Hair loss, dry mouth or fatigue may prompt a question about nutrients or hormones, but the symptom alone does not establish the answer. Ask what evidence would support the proposed cause, what else could explain the finding and what would count against the hypothesis. This preserves curiosity without turning a slogan into a diagnosis.

Keep in mind

Strong general statements may not apply to you. Ask what else could explain a symptom and which test would actually help.

A question for your next conversation

What alternative explanation would we need to rule out?
